Arthur Allen’s translations of the early poems of Maria Wine, forgotten doyenne of Swedish literary modernism, have appeared in the Swedish Book Review, The Bitter Oleander Vol. 27 No. 2, Fence #41, and Poetry Salzburg 39.
His translation of Wine’s poem ‘I have barely begun to build your name’ was selected by Khairani Barokka for a First Time Entrant Commendation in the Stephen Spender Trust Prize 2021.
Arthur is a member of the Swedish English Language Translators’ Association, which marked their 40th anniversary in 2022. He read from his translation of Maria Wine’s first poetry collection, The Wind out of the Darkness (Vinden ur Mörkret , 1943), for the Translators Aloud YouTube channel as part of the year-long celebrations.
